The conference plenary session was opened by Head of the Department of Statistics and Demography Economics Faculty of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Prof. Kovtun N.V with introductory speech. The report ‘Statistics and statisticians in the modern world: the role, problems and prospects’ Prof. Kovtun N.V focused on current problems and long-term training of statisticians in view of recent legislative changes in higher education.

III International scientific-practical conference "Statistics XXI Century: New Challenges, New Opportunities" at the Faculty of Economics was organized in the following fields:

Proceedings of the conference participants published in the English language.
The Subject of International Conference and certain main topics of discussion mentioned by Organizing Committee aroused considerable interest among the Ukrainian academic economic community and beyond. A wide range of professional participants of the conference is reflected in the program (attached).
During the discussion, participants agreed on the advisability of reforming the program of preparation of students on degree in "Statistics" on the new classifier of knowledge, as well as taking into account the change in the system of statistical analysis and observation of contemporary socio-demographic and economic processes in the country.
Having heard and discussed the reports, the participants came to the conclusion about the extraordinary relevance, methodological and scientific significance of the problems of scientific conferences, timeliness of submission to the professional discussion of its main thematic issues.
Participants of the conference - the leading scholars and practitioners have expressed gratitude for the opportunity of creative and fruitful discussion of the urgent problems of modern official statistics and its integration with the administrative statistics and statistical training analysts. As a result, a decision on the need to elaborate the concept of statistical literacy of society, introducing it to a wider professional scientific use.
